'Into the Sunset: Photography’s Image of the American West' Great photography show at the MoMA in NYC if you can make it. Good combination of photographers from the past and present. Richard Avedon (like the image above), Irving Penn, Ansel Adams, Cindy Sherman...
From the Times:
"Into the Sunset” is set up thematically rather than chronologically. It divides up into landscapes and images of people, with subdivisions devoted to different types of images. One group of landscapes focuses on awesome natural beauty while another documents the havoc wreaked on nature by industrial development. People in one section exemplify a pioneering spirit; elsewhere we encounter portraits of wasted human potential. Provocative and amusing conversations between images occur throughout.
2 men throw another over bridge, police searching for them Police are searching for two men who threw another man off a bridge in Brooklyn early this morning. New York City Police Department sources say an off-duty MTA Bridges and Tunnels officer saw two men pull over a gray four-door Toyota on the Paerdegat Bridge in Bergen Beach shortly after midnight.
Brazil’s leader blames white people for crisis Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday blamed the global economic crisis on “white people with blue eyes” and said it was wrong that black and indigenous people should pay for white people’s mistakes. “This crisis was caused by the irrational behaviour of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing.” Hahahahahahahaahahahahaha!
Aaron Spelling's L.A. mansion on the market for $150 million The French chateau-style mansion has 56,500 square feet of space on more than 4.6 acres and is the largest home in Los Angeles County. Among the neighbors are the Los Angeles Country Club and, not too far away, the Playboy Mansion. It's the house that "Charlie's Angels," ''Dynasty" and "Beverly Hills 90210" built!
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!!
21st Century Annoyances *in no particular order...
- Magnetic Strips
They are everywhere. You use them to get into hotel rooms, pay for things, use public transport... just about everything. Unfortunately they have a small threshold when it comes to bending. Bend it once and you can forget using it again. Use it too many times and it's toast. Ultimately you have to use the hotel key card at least twice before the green light comes on.
- Earbuds
Finally earbuds have been released that don't give you a headache. The pressure points in your ears are very sensitive. Unfortunately every person now wants a pair of earbuds. The downside: not everyone knows how to properly use earbuds. The 21st Century public at large are subject to "earbud bleed". A common occurrence on public transportation. Earbud bleed is when the earbudder turns the volume up so high on his/her portable listening device that everyone within a 10 foot radius can hear what s/he is listening too. Some earbudder bleeders are oblivious and some are just ego freaks.
- MMS/SMS'ers (aka Texters)
I love texting. It's quick, easy, cheaper and more efficient. Some people like to gab on the phone, that's fine. I like to text. I'm not much of a "phone talker" so texting really saves me from my social awkwardness of trying to get my point across through a speaker. Ask anyone I know... I am a very conscientious texter. (Maybe not when I first met and was falling in love with Roberto). The point here is that people don't know how and when to text. I read somewhere (the internet?) that it's appropriate to text anywhere you would feel comfortable doing a quick crossword puzzle. Elevators, back of a cab, in your own home, even toilet texting is ok. Texting while walking is not ok. Texting while ordering your meal is not ok. Texting while in a meeting is not ok.
- Inappropriate Social Networking
You've heard this one... No, I don't want to be your friend. I know I knew you in High School but that doesn't mean I want to know you now. Social networking sites exist for you to share links with friends. That's what the internet has always been and will always be... a place to share links of information with those close to you. I don't want to talk about your break-up, "catch up", or meet you for a drink. I'm busy.
- Internet Cafes
Lame.
Madoff's Lawyers Hope to Spring Bernie "Bernie" is going to rot in jail. The 70-year-old Madoff is allowed out of his cell only 60 minutes a day and even then he must wear shackles on his wrists. The lights remain on 24 hours a day and the windows are blacked out; preventing inmates from telling what time of day it is outside, the Daily News reported.
so sad about Natasha
Family of Natasha Richardson Keeps Vigil at Hospital Natasha Richardson is best known as an actress but also as Liam Neeson's wife. She comes from a very well known British family. She is the daughter of the late director and producer Tony Richardson and actress Vanessa Redgrave. She was in a skiing accident that has left her brain dead. Right now she is in a New York City hospital while those closest to her decide what to do. I really feel awful about this story. The poor lady. She was skiing in Canada when she fell and hit her head. Hours later she was rushed to the emergency room with, what I assume to be, brain swelling. Let's all hope she comes out of the coma soon.
Is Obama declassing the White House and American Presidency? As good as it is for Obama to try to do all those things that he promised during his campaign (fixing the economy, universal healthcare, lower taxes for the middle class.. etc), it's probably not a good idea for him to be the one actually doing the hard work. Presidents don't do the dirty laundry. Obama should be doling out these things to his cabinet not doing them himself. Presidents do not call out corporations for their poor spending habits (Obama quote: ""How do they justify this outrage?"), Treasury Secretaries do. Until Obama focuses his politics away from the limelight and does what politicians in Washington do to get things done (stay out of sight) we won't witness any of the "changes" we were promised. Presidents should not waste their time doing things they hire other people to do for them. Still don't think Obama is overstepping his role and declassing the Presidency? It was released today that "President Barack Obama is picking Louisville, North Carolina, Memphis and Pittsburgh for the Final Four in the NCAA men's basketball tournament." He's "just like us".

This silly blog After a long, long time of blogging I'm rethinking my blog again. I think it happens every year around this time. I'm just not that into blogging anymore. My very first blog was when I was a college student. It was on the NYU servers back in 1996! Blogging has changed a lot since then. People make money blogging. Advertisers sell ads on blogs. Some people blog to make a living! A question that keeps coming up is "why do I have a blog when I have Facebook, Twitter, Flickr... etc?" These days there are many websites that do what I do, only better. Buzzfeed lists all the most popular stories on the web. News stations all have websites that constantly update with breaking news, local news and US and World News. I'm just a small fish in an ocean. What shall I do? I tried the weekly posting thing and it didn't work out. Maybe a photoblog is the answer...? hmmm...
In like a Lion... March hit us pretty hard coming in like a Lion on the East Coast. There were massive snow storms and a lot of snow was left behind as the storm went off into the Atlantic. The old saying goes that if March comes in like a Lion it will go out like a lamb. Then there is always the "April showers bring May flowers"... I love Spring.
